The provincial government is seeking $3.4 million from an Edmonton seniors

home after the auditor general’s office found the home had not appropriately spent

its government funding.

Pearl Villa Homes, had been given a multimillion-dollar government contract, with

most of the money intended to go to pay employees providing client care. But over

three years, one-fifth of that money “either should have been spent on direct care

or returned to the province, and it was not,” Auditor General Fred Dunn said. He

said the government should demand such private service providers adequately

report how they’ve spent government money.
