It is shocking that members of the Alberta legislature have allowed the

proclamation of this Act into law. This legislation is a deliberate, calculated

assault on the seniors of this province.

We have documented the legislated abuse of well over twenty five

instances of those who have been or are being wrongly detained

because of unfair, inaccurate competency assessments. These seniors

languish in active treatment hospitals, care centers and mental hospitals

across this province. This does not include the many anecdotal accounts

of which we know.

These are Alberta citizens who have been stripped of all monies, property

& human rights. Those, who lost their rights under the Personal Directives

Act, have not even had a court hearing. Detaining a citizen without a

court hearing is a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
