Ageism, at root of testing

Home > Blog > Ageism, at root of testing

It is now widely known, that it is not only younger drivers
but also distracted drivers who are a major cause of on road
collisions.

However in Alberta, millions upon millions of tax dollars are
being spent on medical assessments and driver testing of healthy
older Albertans, a segment of the population, who are not causing
highway carnage.

Alberta Transportation Statistics have documented that seniors
are safe drivers. This is underscored by the powerful, UNITED
STATES INSURANCE BUREAU OF HIGHWAY SAFETY which have broadly
stated in a Study, published February 21, 2014, that seniors
are safe drivers.

Law abiding, tax paying Alberta seniors are being abused and
harmed by the mandatory, testing protocol.

We allege this monitoring to be based on ageism (stereotyping and
discriminating against individuals or groups on the basis of their age)
There are those who are locked in a time warp, who actually believe
the mythical, underlying presumptive policy that older drivers threaten
road safety. There are also those who are generously benefited by the
corrupt protocol.

The province is in serious debt. iI is time to stop this mass monitoring
of Alberta citizens.
It is time to stop the blatant ageism.
