A Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation report released 

earlier this week shows the vacancy rate for assisted-living facilities

where seniors get less than 1.5 hours of care each day — has 

skyrocketed in Alberta, to 12.2 per cent in 2009 from 5.9 per cent in 2009.

During the same period, the vacancy rate for care spaces where 

residents get more than 1.5 hours of care each day plummeted to 

4.5 per cent from 8.6 per cent.
