Office of the Public Trustee- Investigation by the Auditor General
Home > Blog > Office of the Public Trustee- Investigation by the Auditor GeneralWe are aware of troubling issues dating back many years.
In 1998, the Office of the Public Trustee stopped a police
investigation of financial elder abuse by seizing the evidence,
a cheque, from the Edmonton Police Service.
At a passing of accounts in 2001 by the Office of the Public Trustee,
a Provincial Court Judge stated in open court “Some of the figures
with respect to the traveling don’t add up. I can’t make the two coincide,
it’s not just a matter of small amounts, it’s substantial”.
There was also question about the amount of sterilization monies
that had been received by the Office of the Public Trustee for the dependent
adult. (See website -Emma Frank: Abuse of a dependent adult)
In 2010, a senior Public Trustee instructed the police not to investigate a
matter of financial elder abuse. That 20 year employee has since been
moved to another government department.
We applaud the Auditor General for bringing this matter forward.
