A man in his seventies was admitted to a Calgary hospital in suchdirecondition that hospital officialscalled police. The man died inhospital last Friday after showing signs of severe dehydration.Upon admission to hospital, the bedridden man was fed and hydratedthrough a tube.

Hospital officials, concerned about the man’s condition and care prior to his death, contacted police, who launched an investigation to see if he was neglected by the for-profit nursing home where he lived.

Calgary Health Region spokesman James Finstad said the man was a Palliative patient with complex medical conditions.”He was in the facility

for less than one month,” he said.

Calgary police Det. Cheryl Taylor said she is awaiting results

of the autopsy to determine if there was anything criminal

in the man’s death.
