TO THE HONOURABLE RON LIEPERT: WHOSE CHOICE WILL IT BE WHEN CARE IS WITHHELD
Home > Blog > TO THE HONOURABLE RON LIEPERT: WHOSE CHOICE WILL IT BE WHEN CARE IS WITHHELDDear Mr. Liepert,Here I am again with more information for you to ponder.
I work at a contract program for disabled people at a long term care facility.
One of my people is part of the CHOICE Day program. She is a quadriplegic.
Her husband takes care of her lovingly at home with the help of home care.
Despite her disability, she is sharp and has become a skilled artist. She told
me today that she was being taken out of the CHOICE program and her home
care will be stopped. She was told she has to go to extended care. If she needs
to wait for a bed, her husband will have no assistance at home without this
extra help.THESE PEOPLE ARE SENIORS. It will destroy both of them. You
may implement more home care to give people “choice” but whose choice will
it be? Someone else will decide how that choice will be administered whether
it is at home, in assisted living or in a lodge. Who REALLY benefits here?
It certainly isn’t this couple’s choice.
