An unexpected death of a female resident at the O’Berry Neuro-Medical Treatment Center in Goldsboro, N.C. has resulted in placing four employees on leave. O’Berry is a state run home which specializes in developmental disabilities. According to the Goldsboro News the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the cause of death to determine whether the two supervisors and two health care providers neglected the assisted living/nursing home resident and if nursing or medical neglect resulted in the death.

DHHS Secretary Lanier Cansler stated, “Law enforcement

has been called in, and a thorough investigation into this incident

is being conducted. In keeping with our zero-tolerance policy,

any employee whose actions contributed to the death of this

patient will be held accountable. We will also be reviewing our policies to

determine if changes are warranted.”March 19, 2009 – 05:52 PM
