Bill # 24, Guardianship and Trusteeship Act,has already passed 3rdreading, is seriously flawed legislation. Discrimination against the elderly, those with mental and physical abilities offends the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We will be posting, some of the legislative abuses contained within the proposed legislation, at a later date.

LONG TERM CARE FEES TO RISE BY 7%
Residents’ fees will be be increased 7% on Nov. 1, 2008.The increase is expected to provide operators with another $17 million. The fees cover room and board, nursing care (health care) is paid for by the Federal government.
DEPUTY MINISTERS SALARY INCREASED 61% SINCE 2005
Alberta's top civil servants have been handed an extra 5% paypay raise after a 4.8% bump in April bringing their annual salaryto $253, 668.00. Raises for Deputy Ministers come on theheels of hefty pay raises for MLA's, raises, approved behind locked doors.
ALBERTA SENIORS SPEND LESS MONEY ON HEALTH-RELATED SERVICES AND SUPPORTS THAN NON=SENIORS.
In 2004, Alberta seniors spent an average of $1,733 each on health, includinghealth care supplies,, pharmaceutical products, eye-care and health insurancepremiums.
